Los Angeles Urban Plunge
June 9 - 15, 2019
Following in the footsteps of Father Greg Boyle, students will tour Homeboy Industries and meet employees who run the Homeboy Bakery, the Homegirl Café, and the printmaking department, all of which were established to serve high-risk, formerly gang-involved men and women.
During this immersion experience, students will immerse themselves in the community of East Los Angeles, and by serving the poor and those experiencing homeless at the St. Francis Center, the Midnight Mission, and the Catholic Worker Hippie Kitchen, they will return home with new understandings about the challenges facing communities today. Additionally, students will also visit Covenant House, which offers programs serving victims of physical and sexual abuse and human trafficking, and the Good Shepherd Shelter, serving families impacted by domestic violence who have had nowhere else to turn.
