Summer English Program

All students receive five hours of instruction per weekday, including one hour of conversation or debate. In addition, they receive one to two hours of supervised homework each day. The teaching staff is made up of personnel trained to teach English as a foreign language. At the beginning of the course, students are tested and placed according to their previous knowledge of English. A certificate of achievement is awarded upon successful completion of the course.

Students will take part in daily, after school recreational activities, lasting until about six o’clock, all under the guidance of counselors.

• Weekend activities include guided tours of places of interest in nearby Washington, D.C.
• Social life on campus includes parties with American students as guests.

The Summer Scholars Program offers the most advanced English speakers in the program an opportunity to work with American students in an examination of an exciting issue in international politics. Past issues include the rise of China, the conflict in Afghanistan, Russian politics and nuclear proliferation. Students have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers such as ambassadors, United States Congressmen and high-ranking World Bank and IMF officials.

One of the school’s chief functions is building moral and spiritual values in the young people it is charged with educating. Although the program is non-sectarian, personal counseling of this kind is available to all students. Catholic students will be encouraged to take advantage of opportunities for Mass and group prayer. Each Sunday, all students will attend Catholic Mass together.

Dormitories are provided on campus on a shared basis and the girls and boys living quarters are separate. Students are under careful supervision of adult counselors. Students receive three meals a day. The school provides accident insurance, however valid travel or U.S. medical insurance must be obtained by each student for the duration of the program.

The program is open also to day students. Their tuition includes weekday activities, in which all students are expected to participate. There is an additional fee for weekend activities.

The $600 application fee is applicable to the total fees. This fee is non-refundable.

Please apply below to the ESL Program. Since dormitory facilities are limited, no further applications will be accepted when spaces are filled. Students will be notified of acceptance via email. With the letter of acceptance, students will receive the certificate of eligibility (Form I-20) necessary to obtain the student visa, and detailed advice on travel arrangements, clothes to bring, and so forth. All applications must be submitted online together with application fee. Acceptance will be confirmed once all necessary paperwork is complete

All students, except those who are United States citizens or permanent residents, must obtain an F-1 student visa in order to attend this program. Students will be emailed an I-20 form after paying the application fee, and they must take that form and pay an additional fee to the U.S. Embassy in their home country in order to get the F-1 VISA appointment.

All students will have to produce documentation of vaccinations including any necessary boosters, prior to being admitted to campus for the 2024 program.

"In 2013, at our annual Summer English Program talent show, I was flabbergasted by a performance from our Japanese students. They appeared on a darkened stage with a 28x5 foot white banner. Each student attired in their traditional yukata, and equipped with a paintbrush. With little explanation, beautiful Japanese calligraphy emerged on the banner to the bewildered spectators and fellow students. When the Japanese students declared the translation of the elegant calligraphy as "Dream No Borders," an eruption of applause and exclamations of approval enveloped the theater. These exceptional students had astutely captured the essence of our Summer English Program in just three words. Thus, a mantra was born."
