Sports Medicine

The Georgetown Preparatory School Sports Medicine program is led by a full-time athletic trainer dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of every student-athlete. In alignment with the school’s mission, we support the development of the whole student-athlete, physically, mentally, and emotionally, while promoting safe participation in athletics.

We use a collaborative, team-based approach to care, working closely with the school nursing staff, team physicians, outside medical specialists, and other healthcare providers. Our goal is to deliver high-quality medical care by staying current with the latest advancements in rehabilitation techniques and safety protocols.

An athletic trainer is on campus to provide coverage for all home athletic contests and school-sanctioned practices.

Jamel Jones calls both Brooklyn, New York and East Hartford, Connecticut home. When beginning middle school, his parents moved him and his younger brother to Connecticut, where they still reside. Growing up he always had a fascination with sports, but throughout high school, that interest began to fuse with his emerging love for science. As his own personal athletic aspirations began to sunset, he sought a way to help other athletes further enhance their own. In 2011, Jamel graduated from Temple University with a BS in Athletic Training. Prior to accepting a role at the University of Pennsylvania, he interned with the University of Houston’s Men’s and Women’s Track and Field/ Cross Country teams, where he guided numerous athletes preparing for the upcoming 2012 Summer Games. After 7 years working at Penn, spearheading the medical department of the Penn Relays, and completing his master’s degree at California University of PA, he found a way back to the basketball court, serving as athletic trainer for Princeton University’s men’s basketball team in addition to women’s water Polo.

Seeking an ideal mix of family, culture, and community, Jamel and his wife Adrian moved to Hyattsville, MD in the summer of 2024 in preparation of the birth of their son Emory, born on Christmas Day. Jamel spent his first year in Maryland working at Gonzaga College High School before beginning at Prep in August 2025. Jamel enjoys watching, playing and conversing about all thing’s sports. When not in the athletic training room, Jamel can also be found watching intellectual thriller movies made by Chris Nolan, listening to a wild array of music, reading a mystery book, or a textbook as he prepares to obtain his MBA from American University this coming fall.
