Theater at Prep: Where Creativity Takes Center Stage

At Georgetown Prep, the theater program is more than just a stage, it's a launchpad for imagination, collaboration, and self-expression. Through Prep Players, our vibrant student theater group, young artists are empowered to discover and develop their unique creative voices, whether behind the scenes or in the spotlight.

Each year, Prep Players presents two major productions: a gripping fall play and a show-stopping spring musical. From the first rehearsal to final curtain call, students take the lead in every aspect of the theatrical process. They operate lighting and sound boards, design and build sets, manage props and costumes, and even step into directing roles. We welcome female actors from many high schools in the area.

On stage, students hone their craft in character development, improvisation, and dramatic storytelling. Recent productions have benefited from creative collaborations with professionals including a dialect coach, a stage combat expert, and Story District, a renowned D.C. organization specializing in autobiographical performance.

True to Prep’s spirit of community and collaboration, the theater program welcomes female actors from neighboring high schools to join our productions. And when a young character is needed, you might spot a faculty or staff member’s child making their stage debut, another example of how Prep theater brings the whole community together.

Recent shows have included A Christmas Carol, Beauty and the Beast, Footloose, and The 39 Steps—each one a showcase of the passion and talent that define Prep’s performing arts community.

12 Angry Jurors

Being part of the cast of 12 Angry Jurors was another personally enriching experience I’ve been fortunate to have during my time at Prep. Built on friendship, teamwork, and discipline; the three days of 90 minute (no intermission) performances were a product of the deep connections and trust built within the cast over the past three months. I can’t wait to do it again. Hoya Saxa!
