After graduating from Prep, Carnot went on to Tufts University where he majored in Political Science and led a 500-volunteer organization within the admissions office focused on prospective student interactions and recruitment. During his time at Tufts, Carnot developed an interest in law and subsequently enrolled at Northwestern University School of Law, graduating in 1995.

Carnot has had a series of jobs in the legal profession, starting his career with a large DC law firm, moving to the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, going in-house to a technology company and is currently Vice President & Senior Counsel at Marriott International, where he specializes in technology transactions and counseling the business on new technology initiatives. In addition to his day job, Carnot also serves as the Board president for the Homeless Persons Representation Project (HPRP), which provides free legal services to individuals throughout Maryland who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Carnot also regularly handles pro bono cases through HPRP, advising individuals who may be eligible to have certain charges expunged from their criminal record.

Carnot has remained close to Prep since his graduation, having served on both the Board of Trustees and the Board of the Georgetown Prep Alumni Association.

What impact did Georgetown Prep have on you?

The education I received at Prep was second-to-none. I felt better prepared than many of my classmates in college and really took with me an interest in exploring new subjects. In addition to the work in the classroom, Prep's culture of "Men for Others" really had a lasting impact on my life. Throughout my career, I have always tried to incorporate some element of public service into what I do. Whether it be doing pro bono work, volunteering to help repair dilapidated DC public school buildings, sending shipments of school supplies to tiny islands in the South Pacific or villages in Africa, or helping to prepare meals for people who cannot afford to buy food, I think it's important for all of us who are fortunate enough to have the benefit of a Prep education to give something back to those in need.

What advice do you have for current Prep students?

Take advantage of all the wonderful benefits of a Georgetown Prep education, including really interacting with the faculty and your classmates. Work hard and try to succeed, but also remember to have some fun! High school students seem to be so overscheduled and time-constrained these days and I think it's important to remember to just be young sometimes. As you get older, you'll find that you may regret not taking that extra trip or spending more time with your family or friends. You may not think so now, but life is short and you should make sure to enjoy it.
