I'm Ted Moon '85, a proud alumnus of our beloved Georgetown Prep. I've been fortunate enough to not just attend Prep but also be an active alumnus the last 10 years or so as an assistant lacrosse and football coach, fan, volunteer, and contributor.

What have you done since graduating from Georgetown Prep?

I have been in Marketing as a career since graduating from Prep in 1985. I went to Michigan for undergrad and Notre Dame for my MBA. I began my corporate career in 1993 working for various firms such as MCI, Ogilvy & Mather (in NYC) and Newbridge. In 1999, I started the digital marketing program for Nextel Communications and by our merger in 2005 with Sprint, I managed one of the largest digital marketing programs in the country. In 2008, I started my marketing consulting and media buying company, Pathfinder Interactive, and have done that since.

One of the nice things about owning Pathfinder Interactive was that I able to return to coaching full time. I started coaching lacrosse and football at Prep in 1990, 1991, and 1993 but returned in 2008 beginning with football. I was lucky to be part of some great teams including five I.A.C. championship lacrosse teams as an alumnus assistant coach. In 2014 after our 19-1 dream season resulting in another championship and arguably the best team in the nation, I was fortunate enough to be named 2014 US Lacrosse Assistant Coach of the Year for the Washington, D.C. area.

What impact did Georgetown Prep have on you?

I think the question really is what impact has Prep had on me, to this day. For starters, Prep prepared me well for college, gave me lifelong friends, and taught me independence and self-reliance.

As I grow older and experience the world, I find that the lessons learned from Prep are perhaps more impactful that just what I needed academically to go to college. Service to others and doing the right thing, those are lessons that an education philosophy that emphasizes mind, body, spirit helps, and not just any one area.

Finally, the most important impact is the lifelong relationship with the Prep community that have been like family to me. People come and go in everyone's lives, both professionally and personally, but the Prep community has been one of the pillars in my life. Like real family and real relationships, they may not always be perfect but it is a reflection on the depth of the relationship and how they are an important part of my life.

What advice do you have for current Prep students?

Enjoy the experience that you are fortunate enough to have. You are the lucky few that get to attend this magical place. Take advantage of everything it has to offer, not just the academics or sports or the arts. Make it what it should be for you and begin this great lifelong relationship you have started, one that transcends any one area. Prep truly is a special place in so many ways and Prep teaches you about life through its many tentacles. It's been over 30 since I graduated but Prep still teaches me about life.

You will take away a lifetime's worth of experiences and lessons, as well as friends who are like family from Prep. But since you will have had these gifts bestowed upon you, it is equally important for you to stay as close as you can to the teachings of being a "Man for Others" and give back to the world in your every day lives. You will see that by giving of yourself, it is you that ends up benefiting the most.
