Retired after 24 years serving in the U.S. House of Representatives for New Jersey's 2nd Congressional district, Frank LoBiondo '64 is the founder and CEO of "LoBo Strategies LLC," an independent consulting firm providing solutions-driven strategic advice in government and legislative affairs as well as public relations to its clients.

Frank has been elected to office on the county, state and federal levels since 1984. In Congress, he was a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for more than two decades, serving as Chairman of the Aviation Subcommittee (2013-2019) and Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee (2001-2007, 2009-2013). He was also a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee (2003-2019) and was appointed to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence in 2011 where he would eventually serve as Chairman of the CIA Subcommittee (2015-2019).

Prior to elected office, Frank was a successful small businessman for more than 26 years at his family-owned and operated trucking company before stepping away upon election to the U.S. House of Representatives. However, with trucking in his blood, Frank maintains his Commercial Driver's License even today.

Frank grew up in the small farming community of Rosenhayn, New Jersey. He received his B.A. in Business Administration from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. Frank and his and his wife Tina, a real estate agent, split their time between South Jersey and South Florida with their Weimaraners – Lucia and Lex.

While at Prep, Frank was a star athlete in three sports. He was a star pitcher and first baseman for the baseball team. He was a standout heavy wrestler and won the heavyweight championship in the St. Stephen's tournament, but it was on the football field where Frank really made his mark. He was a member of the varsity football team from 1960-1963, and he co-captained the team in 1963. Frank earned All-IAC honors in 1962 and 1963 and also earned All-Met honors in 1963. For all of these accomplishments, Frank was inducted into the Georgetown Prep Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.

Having coached Frank for three years in football, Coach Jim Fegan said, "Frank was such a tremendous athlete and incredible young man. But what was even more important than his athleticism were his leadership qualities. He was and is a natural born leader. Frank started on the varsity as a freshman the year before I arrived and earned the title as captain his senior year. Having a captain like Frank setting the example for the rest of the team was truly a joy to watch. Thank you, Frank, for all you have done for the entire Prep community."

What have you done since graduating from Prep?

Following my time at Georgetown Prep and graduating from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, I found myself working in the family trucking business and then pursuing a 35-year career in public service at the county, state and federal levels. In 1994, I was first elected to the U.S. Congress in what would be 12 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, eventually chairing the House Aviation Subcommittee and House CIA Subcommittee. I retired from public service in January 2019 and, wanting to continue to be engaged in policy issues, I launched a consulting firm named "LoBo Strategies" based in Ventnor City, New Jersey.

What is one of your fondest memories as a student at Prep?

I have so many fond memories of my time at Prep that it is very hard to narrow down. That said, being on two undefeated football teams and being selected co-captain with Pat Mente ranks at the top.

What impact did Georgetown Prep have on you?

Without question, Georgetown Prep changed my life. I am sure I would have never been elected to Congress if it were not for my Jesuit education and experience at Prep.

Growing up on a farm in rural New Jersey, I was fairly sheltered. Prep taught me to believe in myself, to be a problem solver and the meaning of true friendships. Some of the most important life lessons I learned were from one of the most important men in my life – Coach Jim Fegan.

Coach taught me – all of us – the life lesson of what the meaning of team is... the meaning of sacrificing for the greater good... and the importance of learning from mistakes. Coach taught us if you don't know how to lose, you will never know how to win. He taught us you can always dig deeper even if you think you can't. He taught us about being respectful and humble. Coach taught us you have to believe in yourself to be a winner, on and off the field.

After my Dad, Coach Fegan had the biggest impact on my life.

What advice would you have for current Prep students?

Don't ever let someone tell you there is something you cannot do or someone you cannot be. You are the only one who can hold yourself back.
