The 2018 varsity golf team and Coach Bob Barry won the 2018 Washington Metropolitan Championship (Metros) at PB Dye Golf Club in Ijamsville, Maryland on May 15.
The Hoyas were back eight strokes at the turn before staging a remarkable rally on the final five holes. Prep's comeback was led by Gus Haglund '19's back-nine score of two-under. Haglund shot a 74 for the championship round. Classmate Gary Bullard '19 had an eagle on the final hole to help Prep secure the victory and finished with a round of 75. Nick Foster'18 and Joe Hemsley '21 also shot rounds of 75, while Nick Barros '21 (78) and Keegan Shreves '19 (80) paced the Hoyas.
Prep finished the championship round with a team score of 373. Gonzaga finished in second place with a score of 383 followed by Landon (417).
The Hoyas won the I.A.C. tournament championship on April 24 and finished both the I.A.C. regular season and non-conference schedule with an undefeated record. The undefeated season is the first for Coach Barry in his 35-year coaching career. The last Prep golf team to go undefeated was the 1974 varsity team led by Coach Gus Coupe.
