It was a heart-warming ceremony in the Chapel. Chapter advisor Erika McGinn and members of the NHS prepared the induction ceremony with passion and attention to the details. It was a special grace to see such dedicated collaboration across the departments, faculty, administration, and staff to rally around the new candidates. The rows in the Chapel were filled up by proud parents and teachers, and the scene looked beautiful when President of Georgetown Prep Rev. James Van Dyke, S.J., Rev. David Sauter, S.J., Mr. John Glennon, Headmaster, and Dr. Erik Maginnis, Academic Dean, led the procession of the candidates to the altar to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach's Prelude in C Major, played by Daniel Liu, '22.

Feeling fortunate to celebrate in-person in the Chapel, one of the NHS speakers, Eddie Ioana '22, started his speech about Father Arrupe, S.J.'s address "Men for others", by remembering how special this place was in the student's life at Prep. As freshmen, they were greeted and addressed here by Father Van Dyke and Mr. Glennon. Now as seniors, they are being recognized not just for their academic excellence but also for their leadership and for their presence in the community––as in Father Arrupe, S.J.'s words, "Men for others".

Indeed, the candidates have already started to serve as tutors for the underclassmen, and they declared at the beginning of the year that their focus was to bring back life to Prep after this difficult year of the pandemic. More than ever before, they are committed to be directly present for their peers to help them not just to academically succeed, but also to live the strong bond between brothers, which makes Prep so special.

Joe Raza '22, spoke about the life of St. Edmund Campion, S.J. in the ceremony and emphasized the importance of Pope Francis' teaching of kindness, charity, and service to our fellow human beings. Our NHS with the freshly inducted new members have been already demonstrating how to put aside differences of opinions and serve one another on the basis of love and respect. Special thanks for the musicians, speakers, readers and to so many dedicated people in the background who made the induction ceremony special.

God bless these young men and their work at the NHS. And God bless Georgetown Prep. #AMDG #GeorgetownPrep #menforandwithothers
