Georgetown Prep seniors Joshua Balbach '21 (pictured left) and Matthew Prame '21 have been recognized as National Merit Finalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program, part of a nationwide pool that represents less than 1% of United States high school seniors.
According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), "Approximately 1.6 million students who entered the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, only about 16,000 were named Semifinalists. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title."
Joshua and Matthew were named Semifinalists in October.
Congratulations to Joshua and Matthew on this remarkable academic accomplishment!
