A Statement from Georgetown Prep

June 1, 2020

As an educational institution committed to the formation of young men of every race, creed, and socioeconomic background, and as a Catholic and Jesuit school committed to the protection of life and the promotion of justice, Georgetown Preparatory School joins with its brother and sister schools, Archbishop Gregory of the Archdiocese of Washington, and many people of good will, to condemn the brutality and racial violence that have cost so many of our brothers and sisters their lives and their hopes. We are especially mindful of our school's history with the injustice of slavery; that these issues are not new, we are painfully aware. Georgetown Prep stands in solidarity with the many people who have suffered historically and in our time from such injustice, and we not only call for change, but also pledge that we will continue our work toward promoting the cause of a faith that does justice.

We particularly pray for the family of George Floyd, for all our families who have felt this injustice and the fear it imposes, and for all who have suffered from the violence, fear, and senseless destruction of recent days. May God grant us all the courage and strength to work for a world where such fear is banished and all people can breathe free.
