Gannon Award

Gregory F. Gannon, Georgetown Prep Class of 1968, embodied a lifelong commitment to Christian service. At Prep, and later at the University of Notre Dame, he lived out a deep spirit of generosity that carried into his professional life as a teacher, as founder of the Washington Higher Achievement Program, through his work with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, and in his dedication to his parish and family.

In honor of their 50th Jubilee, the Class of 1968, with the support of the Class of 1969, established the Gregory F. Gannon ’68 Award in memory of their classmate. The award is presented each year to a rising senior who demonstrates a commitment to service and embodies the spirit with which Greg Gannon lived his life.

This year’s award was presented to Michael Allen Wynn ’26, the seventh recipient of this high honor.

Michael has been a dedicated volunteer throughout his years at Prep. Since eighth grade, he has served at the Beth Shalom AME Zion Church food pantry in Clinton, MD, where he organizes donations and assists clients when the pantry is open. This past summer, he completed his senior service requirement at the McKenna Center, helping prepare and serve meals, working in the food pantry, and spending time with men seeking assistance.

At Prep, Michael is a member of the Love in Action Peer Leadership Program, helping to lead retreats for underclassmen. He has also faithfully served as an altar server at school Masses for the past four years and will take on the role of Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist this year.

Beyond his service, Michael is a stalwart member of the indoor and outdoor track and cross-country teams. Head Coach Greg Dunstan describes him as “one of the most cooperative athletes I have ever worked with, and someone who lifts the spirit of everyone around him.” Michael has also been an active member of the Black Student Association (BSA) throughout his time at Prep and now serves as Co-President.

Outside of school, Michael shared a special experience with his family by helping his father study for the diaconate, culminating in his father’s ordination as a permanent deacon in the Archdiocese of Washington this past June.

Congratulations to Michael Wynn ’26, recipient of the Gregory F. Gannon ’68 Award!
