Congratulations Rocky Zhang ’23 who has qualified for the USA Mathematical Olympiad! This is an outstanding achievement in mathematics for a high school student. In the fall Rocky participated in the AMC (American Mathematics Competitions), a rigorous 75-minute, 25-question multiple choice competition. The AMC is widely considered one of the premier national high school mathematics competitions. Approximately 5% of AMC test takers are invited to the competition's next round. Rocky scored very well on the AMC, qualifying him for the AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination). This three hour, 15-question examination is far more difficult than the AMC and even getting a few questions correct is a significant achievement. Rocky scored 11/15 on the AIME, which is a remarkable score.
Approximately 300,000 high school students take the AMC each year, and of those about 250 qualify for the USAMO. Way to go Rocky!
