Stadium Dedication
  • All School

With our deepest gratitude to the benefactors, alumni, parents, and friends of Georgetown Preparatory as we celebrated our Stadium dedication on Saturday, November 5, coupled with a terrific Alumni Reunion Weekend and our victorious Varsity Football Homecoming game vs. St. Albans. Congratulations, Hoyas!

In the words of Georgetown Prep's president, Father James R. Van Dyke, S.J., "We’ve come together today to dedicate this new stadium and to rededicate our historic field, but also to honor some exceptional members of the Prep family, three men who have used their gifts well ad majorem Dei gloriam:

Father Aloysius Galvin, a devoted teacher and counselor, chaplain to the football team and patron saint for so many of our alumni, and a member of the Society of Jesus who gave without counting the cost as best he could;

Coach Jim Fegan who has been the heart of Georgetown Prep football and athletics for 61 years, generous in his service of our young men in countless ways, from dreaming of great accomplishments to the most menial of tasks.

William V. Bidwill of the Class of 1949, who took what he learned here at Prep and literally ran with it, forming a family, building a national football team, and helping his community with a special care for the poor and the young.

It is a privilege to honor these three special men and the wonderful legacy they have bestowed on this community, this family."

The dedication also included the blessing of two bronze plaques, which flank the Stadium entrance, measuring 9ft high and 5ft wide and featuring depictions of William Bidwill ’49 on one and Coach Fegan and Father Galvin on the other.
