April 29 was a great day for Georgetown Prep. We hosted a celebration of our school's essence at the annual Spring Gala. The Gala's theme, Glory Days: Celebrating 228 Years of Brotherhood, captured and enhanced the spirit of Prep in many ways. Starting with Mass in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes and ending with a very lively party in the Hanley Center, the events of the day were a fitting tribute to the strength and vibrancy of our community.
I want to thank all those who attended the Gala and who contributed so generously to our school. All of us who work and study at Prep are deeply grateful to those who make our efforts possible. The Gala, along with the Annual Fund, supports every aspect of Prep, from academic excellence to scholarships, financial aid, spiritual, artistic, athletic and extracurricular curricular activities. Prep depends on your generosity, and you never let us down.
While the proceeds of the Gala are vital to the school's success, I am equally proud of the way our community rallies in support of the cause we love. While the Gala requires hours of effort and is not without some stresses and strains, it proved once again to be a labor of love.
I am deeply grateful to all who made this year's Gala such a financial and celebratory success. I especially want to thank our co-chairs, Maria and Tim Covell and Robin and Chuck Hanley '81. Their work for Prep is inspiring, and so is their gift for raising fine young sons. A highlight of the evening for me was watching Mike Covell and Charlie Hanley IV, both Prep Seniors, thank their parents on behalf of the student body.
On Saturday evening, members of the Prep community generously donated $113,900 during the Raise the Paddle portion of the evening. This year, contributions to the Raise the Paddle will benefit every Prep student because every students at one time or another has been transported by a Prep mini-bus. Thanks to everyone who contributed during the live Raise the Paddle part of the evening. .
We have much to be grateful for, especially as we approach the end of a very successful academic year. God's abundant grace is around every corner at Prep. Thank you for all the ways in which you support America's oldest Jesuit and Catholic school.
