2012-13 Academic Year

February 16, 2012

Dear Parents,

Already we are looking forward to next year at Prep! Again this year our course registration process will be accessed online. I ask that you find the course description booklet and appropriate registration form by grade level at the bottom of this page. Please download these documents at home as you and your son consider his courses for the 2012-2013 academic year.

The accompanying information should answer basic questions about course selections for the next year.

Students are required to take at least six (6) courses each year at Prep and must fulfill the following requirements for graduation: four years of English, religious studies, and mathematics; three and one half years of social studies (including U.S. History and Non-Western World History); two years of Latin, modern language, and laboratory science; one year of fine arts and 40-60 hours of community service.

SENIORS: The Course Selection sheet outlines the courses you must take and some of the options you have. You may select two (2) electives from the options described in the course book. For English IV, you will take a separate course each semester. Rank the options in order of preference on the registration form. Due to demand, seniors are not guaranteed both choices. If you are applying for an AP or Honors course, be sure to complete the required application(s). Consult with College Counseling on your course selection.

JUNIORS: Review the Course Selection sheet and make the appropriate choices. To register for an honors science, you must complete the required AP/Honors Science Application. You must also submit an application if you wish to be considered for AP U.S. History or another AP course in languages. Balance rigor with the best course list for your best grades.

SOPHOMORES: Your choices are limited, yet important. As a sophomore, you will likely take Latin II and the first level of a modern language. If you have studied a foreign language as a freshman, you will take the next level of that language in addition to the first level of Latin. Interested sophomores should also consider the half year art. Highly motivated students who truly love history should consider the full year AP World History. Science placement will be done by the department. Your freshman advisor can go over your selections with you.

The completed registration forms must be returned to my office no later than March 2, 2012. Be sure that you and your son have signed the form. Again, rising senior forms will be reviewed by their college counselor as needed. If your son has any questions, please have him speak to his teachers, his college counselor, the department chairs, or me.

Thank you for your cooperation and attentiveness to the deadline of early March. Go Hoyas!

Sincerely,

Margaret C. Frazier
Academic Dean
