The yearlong elective class focuses on creative photography using a digital camera and computer manipulation of images. Taught by Mr. Gary Daum, the course also covers the principles and history of photography and darkroom experience. Students are given the opportunity to build an extensive portfolio of color, black and white, and digitally manipulated images.
This fall, students were given the assignment of shooting their first few still life photos. The still life is a photo where the emphasis is on the arrangement, and not necessarily the objects. Lighting and shadows are traditionally a critical component. The assignment specified black and white to emphasize the elements of composition. The still life as an art category dates back to the Renaissance.
