Alumni Notes

  • John Byrne, '72, was the lawyer for the heirs of the Mendelssohn-Bartholdy family, who made news in January 2010 when they reached an out-of-court settlement with the Andrew Lloyd Webber Art Foundation about the Picasso painting "The Absinthe Drinker." The family renounced all rights to the painting, worth around 41 million euros ($60 million), allowing a foundation set up by the British composer to keep the piece.

  • Chris Farrell, '72 presented his new book, The New Frugality: How to Consume Less, Save More and Live Better at Politics and Prose on February 1, 2010. One reviewer reported, “Farrell has done his homework so you don't have to. This is an accessible mix of scholarship, personal experience and historical anecdote. Lots of news you can use to make personal finance decisions no matter where you sit in this confusing economic environment.” Several of Chris’ classmates attended his presentation, including Tom Fitzgerald, Tom McManus, Tom Sidman, Joe Corgan, John Byrne and Tim Dugan. Chris also graduated from Stanford and the London School of Economics. Congratulations, Chris!

  • Chris Ryan, '84, and his wife Francesca are proud to announce the birth of their first child, Claire Frances, on December 7, 2009. Claire joins a family that includes her uncle Marc Ryan, '91, and grandfather Frederick Repetti, '54. Although just a baby, Claire already has her own blog at www.SeeTheRyanBaby.com.

  • Tommy Woodward, '97, writes, “Thanks to the High Heavens Above, the gender playing field has leveled out a bit! Shannon gave birth to a healthy 8 lb 10 ounce baby boy, Robert Thomas Woodward II (Tommy) on Saturday, January 23, 2010. Both Mommy and baby are doing great. He's already experienced his very first trip around every ward on every floor at Sibley during my victory lap. Thanks for all the prayers and warm wishes. He can't wait to meet everyone. All our very best, Tommy, Shannon, Sophie, Lily, and baby Tommy.”
  • Ryan Murphy, '05, got to hold the coveted Lombardi Trophy following the New Orleans Saints stunning victory in Super Bowl XLIV. Ryan works full-time in the Youth Programs Department of the New Orleans Saints Professional Football Team organization. He is a Katrina graduate from Loyola University New Orleans in 2009.
