The 2008 Hall of Fame celebration was a tremendous success. There were 21 individual inductees, the 1970 soccer team and the 1962 football team.  The day began with a lunch for all the inductees in the Hanley Center for Athletic Excellence. After the lunch the inductees were greeted with a warm and enthuisiactic welcome from the student body in an afternoon assembly that was highlighted by a spectacular speech from '69 graduate and 2008 Hall of Fame inductee Kevin Byrd. The day concluded with a wonderful dinner in the Hanley Center, where all the inductees and the teams were honored for their athletic accomplishments here at Prep.

The Annual Scott Smith Memorial Hockey Game and Dinner:

The annual Scott Smith Memorial Hockey Game and Dinner will take place the night before Thanksgiving, November 26, at Cabin John Ice Rink in Bethesda. The game will begin at 5:45 p.m.

The Hockey Alumni Game was started in the mid ‘90s by Scott Smith, '75, as a “friendly match” between Prep's varsity  team and a team of Prep alumni. After Scott died suddenly in June 2003 the event was re-named in Scott's honor.

A dinner for all players and friends will follow the game at the Hanley Athletic Center For Athletic Excellence on Prep’s campus. At the dinner, the winner of the Scott Smith Award for service to the Prep hockey program will be announced. Last year’s winner, Bob Kemp, will turn over the trophy, designed after the Stanley Cup, to the new winner.

Proceeds from the event go to the Scott Smith Scholarship Fund.

Those Prep alumni, who are not on the road in the NHL that night, try to make it back and play. For those not willing to strap ‘em on again, face paint and riotous behavior in the student section will be encouraged.

Contact John Marcus at marcus@mmhdc.com for more information.
