Hoya Profiles: Meet Dan Paro '78

What were some of the important lessons you learned while you were a student at Prep?

Life is about relationships and how you handle those that influence you every day. Prep challenged me through all aspects of its culture to value, respect, understand and love the gift of life. If you treat others the way they should be treated, respect their differences, and make the most of every day that is given to you; good things will happen. Faith is the cornerstone of who we are. Through the many facets of Prep’s community and the experiences that I have had over the years, I continue to grow spiritually and emotionally. Everyday is an opportunity and this way of life reinforced by my family and Prep’s lessons has enabled me to grow during the good times and the bad.

Did your educational experience at Prep give you a strong foundation for life?

Absolutely! I am fortunate to have had good people guide me through my time at Prep as a student and employee.

After Prep, where did you attend college and in what ways do you feel Prep prepared you for college?

Following graduation from Prep, I attended Denison University. Being away from home for the first time, it was extremely important that I made the right decisions when no one was there to guide me. Bad choices were made at times; however, the life lessons learned at Prep guided me through four years of phenomenal experiences.

Little Hoya 2004 Graduate Roy Hibbert Drafted Number 17 by the NBA's Indiana Pacers

Roy Hibbert, '04, was drafted by the Indiana Pacers of the NBA. Roy was a standout basketball player at both Georgetown Prep and Georgetown University. While at Prep, Roy help the Little Hoyas to a share of the of the IAC championship in 2004. At  7'2" he was not hard to spot  on the court or on campus. Roy continues to show his love for  Prep by visiting campus to see former teachers whenever he has a chance. Roy has recently given Prep one of his new NBA jerseys to be framed and posted in the new Hanley Center for Athletic Excellence. LIke many in the Prep community I am very happy for Roy and extremely proud of him.

Read the Story of the Great Protector 'Flynndini'
Flynndini_cover (2).gif

Rob Clark (Class of '87) has just published his second children's book, Flynndini Lives!, which is now available for sale on Amazon.com. Flynndini Lives! tells the story of Riley Rooney, a skinny 10-year-old with a problem. Riley has just moved to a new school and Buzz Hogan and his band of bullies won’t leave him alone. Fortunately, Flynndini, a seven-foot snarling tornado of anger, is still Riley’s best friend. But would Flynndini always be there to protect him?

Flynndini Lives! was inspired by Dave Flynn (Class of '88), who passed away last December. For Clark, it was natural to create a story with Flynn as a benevolent protector.

"Dave Flynn was a larger than life character who inspired everyone he met. He had a heart of gold and was the one man you wanted in your corner in any difficult situation. Flynndini Lives! is meant to be both a lasting tribute to his legend and an enjoyable read for the children."

For more information on Flynndini Lives!, please visit http://www.flynndinilives.com. All proceeds from the book will benefit the Friends of Flynn foundation.
