Resident students participate in various activities and trips throughout the year, on and off campus. Planned by the Resident Program, they are fun, adventurous, at times educational, and often help build community spirit and team work. Click to view a slideshow from the 2010-11 school year:
- Assassin’s Trail
Prep residents and resident staff traveled over 90 miles throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, in the footsteps of John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865.
- Taste of Korea
On May 12, Prep’s Korean residents sponsored a “Taste of Korea” dinner for the Resident Program.
- Sumo Wrestling
The annual Summo Suit Wrestling Tournament was a highlight during the winter snow days Prep enjoyed. Both resident students and staff donned these comical wrestling suits for an afternoon of fun and competition.
- Christmas Concert
Prep Singers and String Ensemble performed for the school at the 13th Annual Christmas Concert. Many residents participated in this event, which was held in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception. - Resident Christmas Dinner
Resident student volunteers prepared and served the meal for the annual Resident Christmas Dinner. In addition to celebrating Christmas, the dinner also honored the dining staff for their wonderful support to the resident program. Prep faculty, staff, and their families enjoyed a delicious dinner, which was completed by a surprise visit from Santa Claus and distribution of gifts. School also ended early on Thursday due to some mild snowfall. The residents enjoyed a game of “snow soccer” on the Prep football field. - November Activities
November proved to be a very busy month in the resident program. Events included the Resident Family Weekend and Homecoming Football game versus Landon; a resident staff vs. student flag football game, the first intramural football game under the new football lights, trips to Colonial Williamsburg and New York City, the Marine Corps Birthday Dinner and Resident Thanksgiving Dinner, and an “Egg Tower” Physics contest. - Third Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest
On the afternoon of Halloween, the resident program sponsored the third annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. Over 20 residents participated and highlighted their artistic ability. Prep’s President, Fr. Marco, served as judge. The number one winner was Alex Yeh from Taiwan; second place winner was Cliff Lin from Taiwan; third place winner was Jaime Cruz from Mexico. - Labor Day Weekend
This year the Residents had yet another action packed weekend. Events included: a trip to the Renaissance Festival, Hoya vs. Saxa Intramural Dodgeball and Capture-the-Flag competitions, mini-golf, a Nationals baseball game, and a river innertubing trip. - September Weekend Activities
Some highlights from September include: bowling night, go-cart racing, and days visiting the Smithsonian Museums and National Monuments. - Freshmen Ropes Course
The Freshman boarding community kicks off each year with a day-trip filled with team building activities, obstacle course challenges, and a high-ropes course. |
