Guidelines Concerning Attendance
Regular and punctual attendance is essential to the educational program at Prep. Therefore, the parent or guardian should phone the Attendance Line (301-214-1251) prior to the start of the school day. After 8:30am, please call the Dean of Student’s direct line (301-214-1252). Please note: appointments for doctors, dentists, orthodontists, drivers’ tests, etc., should be made outside of the school day.
If a student is sick, he should not come to school. Upon returning to school, the student must present a note to the Dean’s office signed and dated by a parent or guardian, stating the reason for absence.
Students will receive an admit slip which should be presented to each teacher during the course of the day. Teachers will not admit a student to class without this slip. The Dean of Students will determine the legitimacy of an absence:
*Excused absence: the student is expected to reschedule any missed tests;
*Unexcused absence: the student is not permitted to make up any class work for credit nor reschedule any test.
For absences of three days or longer, the parent or guardian should contact the Academic Dean and the school nurse, (301-214-1227) to make arrangements for any missed assignment. For absences of fewer than three days, the student should contact a teacher or a class member for his assignments. Any request or question concerning attendance should be directed to the Dean of Students.
Late for School or Early Dismissal
Students who arrive after 8:15 AM are considered late for school and must report to the Office of the Dean of Students. Similarly, any student late for a class during the course of the day must report to the Dean’s Office. In the rare event that a student must leave campus for a previously scheduled appointment, the student must present the Dean with a note, dated and signed by his parent or guardian.
