March Madness at the Hanley Center
The 2009 Alumni Hoops Tournament was a major success! Six teams grinded it out in a double-elimination format for bragging rights to the Galvin Cup. Three classes from the '80s ('81, '87, '88) turned back father time for one weekend in an effort to reclaim the glory of year's past. In the end, however, youth ruled the day. The class of '94 and the '03/'04 squad rolled through the tournament undefeated and met in a classic full-court championship game at the Hanley Center. The game featured several lead changes and gutsy play. But ultimately, the '94 squad could not stop the sharp-shooting of tournament MVP Matt Duff, '04, and the '03/'04 team took home the inaugural Galvin Cup! Afterwards, all classes stayed around to eat, drink, watch hoops, and reminisce about the old days at Prep. This is only the beginning of what promises to become a classic tradition. Get the word out to your classmates and get ready to lace them up again for next year! Special thanks to Brian Ridgway, '89, Rob Clark '87, and the GP Alumni Association for their hard work and support of a great tournament. |
