We called together a group of people interested in Prep Athletics to discuss the establishment of the Georgetown Preparatory School Athletic Hall of Fame. The group included past Alumni Association Presidents and representatives of the athletic department, faculty, and Office of Development. This group appointed a Steering Committee to develop the bylaws of the Hall of Fame and nominate a Selection Committee to administer the Hall of Fame and its activities.
The work of the Selection Committee will be a key element to the success of the Athletic Hall of Fame. The Steering Committee deliberated with care to ensure that the initial members of the Selection Committee are men who not only share a love for Prep and Prep Athletics, but are people who get things done and exhibit the qualities the Prep Athletic program works to instill in its participants.
The Hall of Fame’s formal bylaws state that, “Athletics foster the growth of young men in body, mind and spirit; they are an integral part of the school’s educational program. In practice and competition one learns basic human and Ignatian values. The purpose of the Georgetown Prep Athletic Hall of Fame is to formally recognize and publicly honor those who have distinguished themselves in athletic endeavors while at Prep, those who have contributed significantly to the program’s growth and spirit, and whose mature years continue to reflect a character informed with basic human and Ignatian values of integrity, excellence, teamwork, self-discipline, perseverance, humility, desire, heart and care for others.”
