'A' Day, 'B' Day....
Prep runs on a seven-day schedule. The days are named A,B,C,D,E,F and G days. Each class can only give one exam per six day cycle and G Days are exam-free. This prevents a student from having more than two exams per day.

"απαντωs αριστοs"
Meaning "unceasing excellence," απαντωs αριστοs is inscribed on the Hamilton Medal given at graduation to a student considered to be an exemplary Hoya. 

Blue +
Gray
Prep's school colors. Colors were chosen after the civil war to represent students from both the North and South.

Carroll, John
Archbishop John Carroll, S.J., was the first bishop in the United States. He founded Georgetown Preparatory in 1789 with the goal of providing a Jesuit education for young men of all faiths.

Chapel of Our Lady
Prep's spectacular chapel given by a donor during the great depression. The donor was a patroness of the French sculptor Rodin. One bust of her by Rodin can be seen in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, and a second in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.

Deans
Academic Dean
- Mrs. Meg Frazier is responsible for all academic functions in the school from teachers to students. Dean of Students - Mr. Chris Rodriguez is in charge of all student body disciplinary matters. Residential Dean - Mr. Robert Mylroie is in charge of programming, personal growth and discipline for all resident students.

Dress Code
Prep's Dress Code consists of khaki pants, a belt, leather shoes, and a button down long sleeve collared shirt with an appropriate tie. Shirts must be a solid color. Any blue blazers must be worn between October 15th and April 15th.

Free Dress Day
Prep offers Free Dress Days on many Fridays to show school spirit, to support a charity or simply to relax for the day. These days come at the discretion of the Dean of Students Office and only if Hoyas consistently keep up the dress code during the week. Teachers and staff enjoy these casual dress days as much as the students.

Founders' Cup
Award given to the school in the IAC that placed or won the most IAC Championships in athletic competitions over the course of one school year. Prep has won the Founders' Cup for the past 7 years.

Headmaster
Mr. Jeffrey Jones is responsible for all the academic functions of the institution. He reports directly to the president.

IAC
Interstate Athletic Conference
. The league in which the majority of Prep sports compete in for regular season play. It consists of six private high schools in the Washington D.C. area: Georgetown Prep, Landon, Bullis, St. Albans, St. Stephens and St. Agnes, and Episcopal. Many Prep teams compete against public and private schools outside the IAC as well.

JUG
From the Latin, sub jugum, which means: under the yoke.  Sometimes mistakenly attributed to the acronym "Justice under God," jug refers to after school punishment for minor disciplinary infractions.

Kairos
Kairos meaning "crossroads; opportune time" is an essential formative retreat for students of all faiths. It takes place for four days during students' junior year. Many students remember Kairos as the highlight of their high school years. The retreat is led by upper classmen, providing seniors the opportunity to share their experience with the next class.

Little Hoya
Student run school newspaper published several times a year. It covers all Hoya activities. 

Mission
The Jesuit mission is the grounding principle behind everything we do here at Prep.  Our mission is to form men of competence, conscience, courage, and compassion. Men of Faith, Men for Others.

President
Rev. Michael Marco, S.J. is the president of Georgetown Prep. He is in charge of the entire administration and is responsible for maintaining the vision of the school.

South Room
The large dinning room at the south end of Boland Hall where residents eat all three meals and day students eat lunch in one of three servings.

'That's a Hoya'
A term used to refer to someone exceptional who reflects well on the school and who serves as a role model for his peers.

Utraque Unum
Prep's motto, meaning "many and one." This describes Prep's diversity in faith and background that combines to form a proud, united student body.

The Yard
An old English term referring to the grassy area at the center of a University. The Prep Yard is the area in between Boland Hall, MacKavanagh Hall, and Haas Humanities Building. The president of the student government is called the President of the Yard.
