Georgetown Prep follows a semester system; each term consists of two marking periods and an examination. Classes meet Monday through Friday. The following should be noted:
- An Eight Period Day with 42 Minute Classes – Classes will begin at 8:15 A.M. and end at 2:46 P.M. All classes will continue to meet every day. The elimination of homeroom and the 42 minute period extends the transition period at the end of the day for students involved in extra curricular activities, thus allowing for more time to meet teachers, make up tests and quizzes, or do homework before after school activities begin.
- A 20 Minute Break Between 2nd and 3rd Period – The morning break offers students the opportunity to socialize, grab a snack or visit with teachers/coaches. It is “down time” for students to re-group and gather themselves together for the remainder of the day.
- A 7-Day Test Cycle with an Added “G” Day – Our test day cycle will run from A through G days with no testing permitted on “G” Day. This day will allow for a more even distribution of school work over the cycle and will ensure that there is at least one day in the cycle when students are not being tested.
- Partial Rotation of Classes – Periods 1,2,3,7,8 will rotate on a daily basis. Classes in the middle of the day –periods 4, 5, and 6 - will not rotate to accommodate lunch and A.P. science labs. This will reduce the number of times a single class is missed due to early athletic dismissals.
- Elimination of Bells – A more collegiate environment will be created through the elimination of bells. Faculty, students and administrators will be responsible for the orderly movement to and from class. Disciplinary actions for tardiness and absenteeism will still apply. All campus clocks will be synchronized by the start of the school year.
