Gunlocke Hall, which was dedicated in 1971, currently serves as the residence hall for freshman boarding students. There are two floors of student rooms, suites for members of the residential life staff, a lounge, and a patio. The construction of Gunlocke Hall allowed for the accommodation of more boarding students. Today, nearly one-quarter of Prep's students reside on campus.
The original purpose of Gunlocke Hall, named for benefactors Howard W. Gunlocke, '29, and son William H. Gunlocke, '65, was to improve Prep's food services. Their intention was to build a new kitchen and dining area for students and faculty, but plans changed and dining services remained in Boland Hall.
